Leadership Academy only available to Chamber members. Limited spots.

This exciting programme is made up of 6 workshops, held over 4 months and is designed to provide attendees with the opportunity to refine leadership skills, develop their leadership style and be empowered to lead others and contribute more to the success of their organisation and the wider business community.

Facilitated by Malcolm Eadie, Progressive Solutions Ltd, each two hour session features a presentation from an experienced local senior executive. You will have the opportunity to engage with the presenter and learn from their knowledge and experience.

Presenter - Sean Goodwin, Chief Executive 100% New Zealand Honey

Sean is Chief Executive of 100% Pure New Zealand Honey, a locally based exporter and marketer of mānuka and other honey products. Prior to relocating to Timaru in 2014, Sean held senior commercial roles within the Food and Beverage industry, including Managing Director of Bluebird Foods and Sales Director of Cadbury NZ. In addition to his executive role, Sean is Chair of the GS1 New Zealand board; a director of Apiculture NZ, the peak industry body for honey and bee-related activities; and is an Advisory Board member of Viberi NZ.

In 2016, Sean was awarded a Prime Minister’s Business Scholarship that allowed him to complete a senior executive program at Stanford Graduate School of Business in the USA. Sean offers a diverse background of private and multinational commercial operations, as well as not-for-profit organisations. He will share his experience of leadership development and growth, including the importance of self-reflection and how to navigate the journey.

Presenter - Dr William Rolleston CNZM, MBChB, South Pacific Sera 

William is co-founder of biotechnology and vaccine manufacturing company South Pacific Sera Limited which grew out of a diversification of his family’s farming business on Blue Cliffs Station.

William has advocated for science, industry and agriculture as the founding chair of New Zealand’s biotechnology industry association and the Life Sciences Network, as president of both New Zealand Federated Farmers and the World Farmers Organisation and has advised local and central government on science strategy, economic development and biosecurity through the Science and Innovation Boards, the Aoraki Development Trust and as external advisor to the Governor of the Reserve Bank.

Innovation is realised through leadership.  The journey is often long and the outcomes uncertain but for those who want to make a real difference it is a journey worth taking.

Presenter - Michelle Pye, Director, Pye Group

Michelle and her husband Leighton, own and operate Pye Group, a large-scale agricultural business with dairy, cropping, process vegetable, grazing, transport and contracting operations.

Michelle has a financial background and along with working within Pye Group she is involved in industry groups including the Fonterra Co-operative Council, Potatoes NZ, The Potato Seed Co-op Ltd, The South Canterbury Transport and Logistics Panel and judging both Dairy Industry and Business Excellence Awards.

Michelle is a great believer in having strong values, building relationships, networking and taking advantage of the opportunities that these create.

Presenter - Steve McKnight, Fonterra 

Steve is an experienced Food Professional who has racked up 27 years working for Global Food companies across Australia, North America and NZ. Steve’s role looks after Fonterra’s milk processing assets in South Canterbury and involves a workforce of around 1000 people producing high quality dairy products for the world.

Steve’s background in operations ranges from Quality to Technical including manufacturing and of course people leadership.

Presenter - Peter Burt, Timaru District Council

Peter has over twenty years of business and operational experience, coaching and management in sports, Chair Board of Schools Trustees, policing as senior Crime Manager, awarded the Queens Service Medal and served overseas with the United Nations. Chair of Southern Trust Event Centre, Chair of ASPECT Trust, Youth Enterprise mentor and Restorative Justice mentor.

Peter is a hard- working and committed Timaru District Councillor with a focus on developing economic growth and opportunities for Timaru and has devoted thousands of hours of voluntary time to the community and developed significant governance and business acumen.

Presenter - Dr Therese Arseneau, Professional Board Director, Political Commentator

Dr Therese Arseneau has wide ranging governance experience in NZ and Canada and is currently Chair of the Board of ChristchurchNZ, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, a Director of J Ballantyne Company Ltd and Open Polytechnic New Zealand Ltd and formerly served as Chair of Regenerate Christchurch, and as a Director and Chair of Enterprise North Canterbury.

A specialist in elections and NZ politics, Therese has worked as a political and election night analyst for TVNZ and TV3 in NZ and CBC TV & Radio in Canada. She has provided expert advice in the areas of electoral reform, voter participation and issues of representation to governments and electoral administrators in NZ, Canada, Australia, the Pacific Islands & the UK. Therese was a member of the NZ Electoral Commission’s Expert Advisory Panel for the 2011 Referendum on the Electoral System and the post-referendum review of MMP.

She holds a Doctorate in political science from Oxford University and has been a university lecturer in Canada and NZ and is currently an Adjunct Senior Fellow in Political Science at the University of Canterbury; 2011 she received a UC Teaching Award for excellence in teaching.

Cancellations and Refunds

1. Cancellations must be advised in writing or by telephone at least three full working days prior to the date of the course or event.
2. All cancellations and refunds will incur a $30.00 + GST administration fee to cover the costs.
3. If we do not receive a cancellation notice within three full working days prior to the course or event commencing, or if a participant fails to show on the day, full fees will be payable.
4. Requests to transfer to a later course can be made, subject to availability and approval. If participants are able to transfer to a later course the administration fee is waived. This request must be made at least three working days prior to the original course or event.
5. A replacement participant is welcome at any stage prior to the course or event commencing at no additional cost. Please provide us with the details as soon as possible.
