About Rob and Eva Hunt & Mocca Café
Rob and Eva Hunt have between them experienced long and varied careers in the hospitality sector offering a diverse level of experience.
Eva has worked in both front of house and kitchen in five star hotels in Europe, Africa and here in New Zealand. She has also worked in resort hotels and a boutique hotel. Her roles covered reception, hot kitchen and pastry, front office manager, banquet and conference manager, before eventually moving on to owning her own business; Arthur St Kitchen in November 2015.
Rob has worked as a chef in five star and five star deluxe hotels in Europe, Africa, Asia and here in New Zealand, as well as in several Michelin stared restaurants, Relais & Châteaux properties, resort hotels and a boutique lodge. He also spent time working on the luxury cruise liner QEII. More recently Rob taught for several years all different aspects of hospitality at our own Aoraki Polytechnic here in Timaru before joining his wife at Arthur St Kitchen.
Rob and Eva purchased Mocca Café in February 2018 as they felt that it would complement their existing business Arthur St Kitchen, a destination coffee shop, whereas Mocca Café has the advantage of being located in Stafford Street and as such catches a high volume of passing trade, as well as catering to centrally located businesses. Mocca Café also features fantastic meeting and conference facilities in the upstairs boardrooms where up to 50 guests can be catered for; to date these rooms have been largely under-utilised.
Since taking over Mocca Café the use of margarine has been eliminated and pre-made, frozen convenience products and other finished bought-in items have been reduced to a bare minimum. Focus has been on improving and standardising recipes, using fresh, seasonal, local ingredients where possible to ensure a high level quality and consistency throughout everything that is served. Butter and free-range eggs are always on top of the shopping list.
The goal for Mocca Café is for it to continue to service the local business community, and attract passing shoppers as well as regular visitors to Stafford Street, but also to become a destination of choice for discerning guests who appreciate quality food made with quality ingredients. As a part of that goal the intention is to better promote our conferencing facilities and catering options to a wider audience.
