The Government recently announced changes to post-study work rights for international students. This may interest you if your business currently employs or intends to employ former international students on post-study visas. These changes follow an extensive consultation process and were in response to concerns about potential exploitation of students and ensuring that post-study pathways for students were ‘fit for purpose’. These changes will come into effect on 26 November this year. Some of the significant changes include:
• The removal of the employer-assisted post-study work visas at all         levels
• Special provisions for those studying outside of Auckland
• The ability to gain a three year post-study open work visa for degree     7 or above qualifications
• Changes will be ‘grand-parented’ so will not impact current                   post-study work visa holders
