Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy Review SCCC Submission

Timaru District Council is reviewing the Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy. Council is proposing to keep the current policy, which allows shop trading in the whole District on Easter Sunday.

The options available are –

  • Keep the policy as it is (Council’s preferred option) – Allow trading in the whole District on Easter Sunday; or
  • Scrap the policy – Revoking the policy would mean that only those shops granted an exemption by the Shop Trading Act are allowed to trade; or

Change the policy – allow trading on Easter Sunday only in specific parts of the District, e.g. Geraldine, or Timaru.

The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has made a submission and supported the current policy.
